Stephen Swanson has wide experience as a concert and opera singer. Before

joining the voice faculty at The University of Iowa in 1994 he had an extensive

operatic career in Europe, singing in opera houses in Switzerland, Germany,

Austria, and the Netherlands. He has also sung under major conductors.

His recital on our series has an intriguing title: “Senior Recital Revisited: 45 Years

Later.” As the title suggests, he will recreate the program that he sang as a senior

voice major at North Park College. The four sections will include Baroque music

(Handel and Bach), German songs (Brahms, Schubert, Wolf, Strauss), French songs

(Duparc, Ravel), and selections  from Songs of Travel by Vaughn Williams.

Stephen has sung solos with our choir on several occasions. Now we have the

opportunity of hearing him sing a full recital.

His pianist is Casey Rafn, a student of Ksenia Nosikova in the UI School of Music.
