Kristin Ramseyer

Choir Director

Kristin Ramseyer is a second-year DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) candidate and teaching assistant in Choral Conducting at the University of Iowa, where she sings with the premier choral ensemble, Kantorei, and studies with Dr. Timothy Stalter, Director of Choral Activities.  From Fall 2015 to Spring 2017, she served as assistant instructional faculty in the School of Music at Illinois State University where she taught voice, directed the Women’s Choir, and served on the staff of The School of Theatre & Dance and The School of Music’s joint productions of Street Scene and 1776.  In May 2015 she completed dual Master of Music degrees in Choral Conducting and Voice Performance at Illinois State University.  After earning her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2003), Kristin spent the first ten years of her career teaching chorus at Jeffrey C. Still Middle School (Aurora, IL) and Round Lake Senior High School (Round Lake, IL), where she co-directed and accompanied several musicals including Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Jane Eyre, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Urinetown, and Jekyll & Hyde

Kristin grew up in an American Baptist church in East Moline, IL. There, she accompanied the church choir and lead the youth worship team. During college, she played piano for a Presbyterian church in Urbana. Living in Lake County, IL she attended a non-denominational church that did not have a traditional choir, so she sang and played “keys” on the worship team. Since going back to school (MM and DMA) she has served as music director at two churches, one, a United Methodist Church, and the other, a Lutheran church (interim). At both, she directed the adult sanctuary choir and handbell choir.

In August 2018, Kristin began work as the music director at The Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Iowa City. She is most excited about directing at UCCIC because of its rich choral tradition and the inclusive community they have built.

Kristin and her husband, Joshua, live in Coralville, IA and are loving their second year of marriage.
