Today is a communion Sunday. If you haven’t done so already, you might want to pause this service and assemble what you will eat and what you will drink. It can be bread and grape juice or wine or something as simple as a cracker or rice cake and water for use in our worship.
This morning’s worship is a little different in style and tone. It was designed to be prayerful, contemplative, and meditative as we enter a time of transition when there is much joy and relief as well as uneasiness, confusion, and ambiguity. Today we are taking some time to pause, giving ourselves a time to center ourselves, a time to reflect, and a time to refresh our spirits.
We find ourselves at a threshold—and the scripture lessons today connect us with other people at other times who went through threshold experiences. While it might seem at first that we simply need to go through and go forward, a threshold actually demands more from us even as it offers more to us.
So let us pause this morning. Let us take a few minutes to begin to consider where we are and where we are going.
I don’t have a lot to tell you this morning. I do have some questions.
So I invite you to relax, to sit back, and with these questions perhaps create your own sermon.
