On Saturday, June 15, we will have a booth on the Ped Mall during the Pride Fest. This is nothing new. We’ve been a presence at the Pride Fest for well over twenty years. Each year members of our church are there to let people know about our welcoming, open and affirming congregation. Year after year, we hand out beads and church brochures and tell people who we are.

And every year, church members at the booth hear something like: “I didn't know churches like yours even existed.”

Word is not getting out—at least not enough.

Maybe that’s just the nature of things.

There are times, there are certainly times when God and the work of God’s people are obscured. As the fox in The Little Prince says: “What is essential is invisible to the eye.” Paul put it this way: “What can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.”

Often our vision is poor. Sometimes we overlook what we need the most. Can we learn to look at what cannot be seen? There are times when one must look in new ways to discover the presence of God.

Again and again, scripture suggests there is more than meets the eye in every event.

This morning then, we hear a a story of what we see and what we miss.
