O.K.—Let’s see where we are:

Trade with China is shaky at best.

Increasing agriculture and industry means increasing methane—a greenhouse gas—being released into the atmosphere.

The gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow.

Wealthy men are involved in all kinds of sexual misconduct.

Jewish people are accused of being “disloyal.”

The leader is acclaimed as a god by some—and quite ready to receive such acclamation.

Oh. I should be clear. I’m talking about Rome in the mid first century, when Paul arrived there, not our nation in the past week. The more things change…

We wrap up our summer travels with Paul as he arrives in Rome, a prisoner yet surprisingly free, speaking boldly and without hindrance. His approach as he faces the end of his life informs our own lives in these late summer days of new beginnings.
